Woke up this morning to the sound of soft rain. Upon looking out the window could not see past the first few rows of olive trees and the temperature had dropped as well.
Cooking class started at 9:30 with people from Vancouver, Seattle, and a mother and 10 yr old son from Yamba. We made a yummy basil pesto served on crunchy bread, tagliatelle with a creamy mushroom and pancetta sauce, turkey cooked in milk (sounds different but was sooooo tender and the milk changed into a type of cheese served on top) served with white beans and a yummy apple dessert. The tagliatelle we made from scratch and Paola explained the many ways you could use the pasta we stretched out. First time I have used a pasta machine. Just as we were finishing the husband and two teenage sons of the Yamba family turned up and the boys gratefully finished up the dessert and tried some Italian chocolate with hazelnuts through it.
Simonetta took me for a drive in the afternoon to Greve (abt 30 mins). It is a pretty town ship with lots of arches in the town square. We visited the butcher which is quite a gourmet one with different meats spread over many rooms. Downstairs in the cellar I saw the large rolls of cheese stored ready for sale. After visiting many butchers I am getting used to the strong smell of the pork meat hanging everywhere.
Dinner tonight they are getting me to try some different salami's including the one from the wild boars!!!!!! Tonight is my last night in the countryside as after the cooking lesson tomorrow I will travel back to Florence for one night.
