A very long day of travel today from Sorrento to Assisi. We stopped at a war cemetery along the way.

This afternoon was a time of spiritual experience. We visited Santa Maria degli Angele church. Here was where St Francis of Assisi worked and died. There were many Franciscan friars in the grounds and church St Francis built a small church which is now housed within the larger church for protection. I saw the two doves that live always near where St Francis died.

A few minutes up the hill (joined by a paved walkway) is Assisi where St Francis lays to rest. This is a Papal Basilica and within it is a Papal throne. The history within these walls and the artwork by artists from different countries show many different viewpoints of his life.

Today was a special day.

Our hotel is definitely 5 star and situated high on the hill overlooking hills and the town.
