It's Friday night and we're sat in front of our log burner in the living room watching a film on the laptop.
It's been a manic week of hard work. We spent last Saturday in Palmerston north -the nearest largest town. 210miles away round trip, I drove all of it x so we rented a car- I rung up a company I found online, when I got through they said they didn't di car rentals and gave a number.. A kayak rental place. Asked to rent a car and come round and see what he's got, and he said: give me a. Hour and a half and I'll have the car clean. Just one...
So it was a solid 3 litre old Nissan car, red. a tank to drive, extremely comfy, automatic. Fab! Driving went ok, there are passing lanes for overtaking so that was nice, the highway was otherwise a one lane road. All smooth road, up and down hills but mostly flat ☺️ Took 2 hours each way and we got most of the stuff for our house, bed stuff, kitchen stuff, large food shop as its a bit cheaper there and more choice. There is another larger town an hour each way from Ohakune that we'll check out too at some point.
Palmerston is a lot bigger though.
Can get everything we need there.
So Sunday.. We wanted to get outdoors in the national park!! We'd done a little hike in town by the river, that goes from the high street through some jungles forest for half an hour. Now we wanted to do one if the trails in the national park.. And I chose an advanced mountain biking track. Never done mountain biking before.. Well once on an island near Singapore but although muddy and swampy that was mostly flat. 21 miles later Ive done some real mountain biking. Lowest gear possible with the back wheel spinning out and sliding back down. Some paths close to a cliff bit.. Great trail, but mostly up very steep slopes. We were knackered!! 21 miles of great exercise ☺️
