Eatons Hill, Queensland
DAY 1
0600 All loaded up and heading off. Beautiful sunny day. Some fog near Ipswich.
Missed the Warrego Hwy turn off and saw a mob of kangaroos grazing on the green plain in the early morning sunlight, on our detour.
0845 Breaky at "Oakey Dokey"
1030 Jonny rode the Giant Moonie Yabbie. "WHAT?"
1300 Picnic lunch on the Balonne River at St George. Very hot, but nice and green. Water where the locals were playing cricket in the river bed a few weeks ago.
Saw a giant striped goanna crossing the road outside Dirranbandi.
Drove through a shower of fat rain.
Had to stop for a small flock of sheep to cross the road. Damo nicknamed one straggler "Dopey".
1500 Stopped at the old Hebel Pub for a drink. Cool animal caricatures and a sloping bar.
1530 Crossed into NSW.
Saw a big old man red kangaroo just standing at the edge of the road. And then a few more groups a bit further along.
1630 Arrived at Lightening Ridge.
Settled into our little cabin. Kids happy with the bunk beds.
1830 Walked across the road for dinner at the Bowls Club. Lost at Keno.
2045 Early to bed after our long drive. Didn't seem like such a huge day. Really happy with how the kids have been.
