On Friday afternoon I went to see the White Cliffs of Dover which is situated just off the southeastern coast next to the Strait of Dover. It was a beautiful warm day, the water was a crystal blue color with a pebble beach. The cliffs are white because over a long period of time the cliffs have been eroding and now feel a bit like chalk. There is no doubt that the cliffs are becoming more fragile and could start to brake off large portions in the coming years ahead. Dover is also an important place in history, its cliffs provided shelter and support for the troops in WWII. There were underground tunnels which included a hospital, work station for the military, as well as sleeping quarters. There were also visible enterances from the outside to the tunnels so that the troops could get in and out safely. This is a prime location because of its access to the water and other neighboring countries. The whole town was really very quaint, it had a eastern shore feeling to it. I really enjoyed its setting especially the rolling green hills and impressive castle located just above the cliffs. I would defiantly recommend going to Dover if you get the chance.
