A cold morning in Queenstown but still no snow. After a final walk beside the lake we loaded up the Toyota six seated and set off for Lake Tekapo, about a three hour drive. The landscape along the way was pretty brown. The first few kilometers out of Queenstown we drove past grape vines but that changed to sheep fields. You really notice the change of seasons over here in the trees with many of them changing colours or having lost there leaves. As we neared Lake Tekapo we were shrouded in low cloud but when it cleared you could see the snow capped mountains including Mt Cook. We're staying at the Peppers Resort (very small rooms, but very warm) and it's an easy walk to the town centre, not that there's much in town. We walked over to the Church of the Good Shepherds, a beautiful old stone church with magnificent views across the most blue lake to the snow capped mountains. A stop on the way back at the local tavern for a drink and early dinner and now showered and snug in our rooms.
