Okay, this is going to be a more cheery post because its currently my day off and I'm lying on a sun lounger next to a pool with a banana milkshake at the 4 star lodge down the road!! :D I'm having a little look at the menu considering what meat and cheese based food I'm going to have before going back to Vegan-ville....
I'm writing this today to update you of my plans.. Having stuck the Monkey sanctuary longer than I thought I realised that I was going to leave South Africa without having seen much of South Africa and this was a bit ridiculous! So, I've booked myself a Safari and Cape town trip for my last week!! So excited! Mainly just for the flushing toilets though...
Anyway, it's been a bit of a crazy week in money land.. Snakes and spiders galore! There's a 3-legged monkey that doesn't actually live in an enclosure, it's a "bandit" but one of the only nice ones and it got bitten by a snake! It was a scary time but luckily it wasn't a poisonous snake and Tripod is ok! I seen a snake but it was just a brown house snake, I'm not complaining.. I'd rather not have an encounter with the black mamba that someone seen yesterday.. I did see a tarantula though... It's made its home next to one of the monkeys cages! :/
I've had some better jobs this week as well as the usual sitting watching monkeys and picking grass and leaves for monkeys I was trained on the medicines certain monkeys need and administering it (disguised in bananas and various other fruits) so that was interesting! We've also got an escaped monkey at the moment called Nigella who, quite frankly, isn't ever going back in her cage. I was put in charge of catching her yesterday for a couple of hours which basically means filling her cage with food and tying a piece of rope to the gate then waiting round the corner to shut the gate if she went in... Nigella sat in the tree next to me for the 2 and a half hours!!! There has also been some monkey bitings this week and I think it's probably because mating season is very near so the monkeys are more aggressive. Thankfully, I have avoided being bitten so far!
I've been feeling quite homesick while I'm here, I'm hoping that this is just because there's so little to do here and you're constantly thinking! Maybe when I start doing things it might be easier.
Oh by the way I had a butternut squash pasta dish.. Was lovely but because I haven't had real pasta or cream in so long I was full after a few bites... :(
Anyway, that's it for now, will update soon I expect!
