June 28th (Sunday) - Day 119 - North Coast
We had another day of touring in front of us. It was a lot of the same as the day before; loads of view points and random things to see along the way. We drove through a placed called Devonport which our guide book said and I quote "The place to be on a Saturday night is the McDonald's drive through". Needless to say we did not stop there long or visit the McDonald's drive through. Our first major stop was a place called Burnie where we found a place to crash for the night. A bit of a nasty place but it was cheap. We continued along the coast to a place called Penguin where there was a famous Sunday market. That took us all of 10 minutes as it seemed a bit of a local place for local people! Our tour took us along most of the north coast and our final stop of the day was at a huge volcanic plataeu which stuck out into the sea. There was a chair lift up (for good reason) but it shut at 4. Again it was 5 past 4! So we decided to walk to the top. Huge mistake - this thing was stepper than Ayres rock (and that's steep!). Puffing and panting we made it to the top. It was more than worth it as the views were amazing! The place also seemed to be full of random weirdo teenagers. Maybe I am getting old? It was quite a long drive back to Burnie and we were both shattered after our long day.
