April 13th (Monday) - Day 44 - KL to Singapore
We got up early and went to the bus station. The place was mad. Thousands of people everywhere. We found our platform and waited for the bus. When they let us all on it was not full so the bus did not leave on time. Instead we waited for ages while they found people to fill it. Once it was finally full we were on our way. It was meant to be direct but at the border town they drove all over. Finally we got to the border and the driver said this was as far as he was taking us! He'd got us to Singapore but only just. We went through immigration and came out the other side with no idea how to continue to the centre. Luckily someone took pity on us and gave us a lift to the bus station on their bus. Once there we had to find the nearest tube station. An hour later we checked into our hostel and headed to Orchard Road as everyone had told us that was the place to go. It was 100% shops so gave up on that and headed to the bay. The first stop was a building site so we went back on the tube one stop. Once there we found the lion fountain and the prime photo stop. We then followed the river up stream and found the trendy hang out spots. We got conned into buying an expensive jug of beer - 18 dollars (9 quid) then after continued to wander. We found a nice place and hed a few pints (still 4 quid each) then headed back home. We had a brief walk around little India before calling it a night.
April 14th (Tuesday - My Birthday) - Day 45 - Singapore
I really wanted to go to the zoo. First we needed to get a tourist pass for the bus and the tube. They did not do them at our local station so went to the next one. Once again they did not do it but told us which ones did. An hour later we headed to the zoo with passes in hand. The tube took us half way there and we had to go the rest of the way by bus. Once there we spent about 6 hours looking around including a sea lion and elephant show, both were really good. They had alsorts of animals including white tigers! After the zoo we went back to the main centre and saw the worlds largest fountain. I then had the worlds largest meal from Tony Roma's. Afterward we went to Clarke quay for some more expensive drinks. Once back at the hostel we learnt that it was the land lady's birthday too and she gave us some cake :)
April 15th (Wednesday) - Day 46 - Singapore
We got up early and headed down town to the Singapore flyer. Basically the London eye. We had a running commentry from a really old guy who loved Singapore a little bit too much! As it was early there were not that many people there and we had our own pod. After that we headed to the tiny island of Sentoso. We got the monorail to the beach station and had a walk around. There were a number of cool things like a massive aquarium and a dolphin park but they were way too expensive. The only free attraction was the land train and an area quoted as the most southerly point of continential Asia. Singapore being an island made it fairly untrue! We got back to another monorail station and had a look around but again it was so expensive to do anything. That evening we found the back packer area in little India.
