LA to Lima
There is not really an awful lot of things to in Lima. Once you've visited the Inca ruins of Pachacama, just outside Lima and had a look at the main square, Plaza des Armas and taken a few photos of the cathedral and parliament building, done a bit of shopping then thats it. It's a large city (of 8 million people) but most of the bits we saw by taxi looked rather ugly and rundown. Our 2 days stay was long enough before we left for Cuzco.
We stayed in a very attractive hostal El Patio in one of the nicer areas of Miraflores. We arrived in Lima at 2.00am on Monday after an 8.5 hour flight from Los Angeles with LAN Airline. Driving to LA from Pismo Beach took longer than expected. We got stuck in a traffic jam near Santa Monica and finished up being diverted onto Sunset Boulevard. This all added a couple of hours to the journey The flight itself was fine with no disasters such as lost luggage or getting ripped off by some taxi driver. The only error we made was going through security at LAX before we realised that all the shops are located before the security bit and not after.
Tried our first Peruvian restaurant last night. Corn seems to play a large part in the menu but overall it was a positive experience and about half the price of the USA. Their local soft drink Inca Cola tastes very much like Irn Bru.
Not much else to report. See you in Cusco
