So..... Washington D.C what have i got to tell you?
New York is an amazing busy place, although being on own my own was a struggle at first. To be honest I felt like a bit of a looser ha although that quickly changed when contiki arrived :) We left for Washington DC on 24/6/2011 & went through 5 states, one being philedelphia. I tried there famous cheese steaks, the first couple of bites were nice but not sure i'd have one again. We arrived at our hotel about tea time its great having a tour manager everything runs so smoothly and he's hilarious ha.I met a girl from Scotland on the way to Washington and surprisingly contiki had paired us in the same room so we were happy. We had a quick turn around when we arrived at the hotel for a late night tour of Washington. We were all knackered so was a bit hard going, I was excited to go to bed as boring as it sounds ha.
We had an early start the next day, our coach driver "Tracy" took us all down to D.C so we cud explore the museums etc. DC is full of them ha.I wasn't overly excited about it, thought i would get bored, but the Holocaust museum was amazing.......powerful! I was looking at a picture of people in the concentration camps and an American lady next to me pointed herself out on the picture. She was 13 years old and her father and brother had just been taken away. We asked her so many questions she was great and talked to us for about 15 minutes. I was in there for nearly 3 hours I actually cant believe all that happened makes me sad. We all came out bloody crying however our tour manager did pre warn us about it haha
Following this we went to the White house and Washington monument by then we were knackered so relaxed on the grass waiting for Tracey to collect us. There is so many museums here... American history, spy museum, air and space, you get searched in each place you go and made to drink your water I suppose to check for explosives ha. America must spend a lot on security because they are literally everywhere, its fun looking for the snipers for the White house I think I spotted 1.
We went out for a meal and to a club called third edition later that night. This was the first time all 50 of us had been out together. We have all been giving each other these shy little smiles and not saying a lot really so it was good to break the ice ha. We all got pretty drunk and then the shyness was GONE ha.
Anyway travelling day tomorrow so goodbye to Washington DC while we make our way to North Carolina. I'm safe, well and happy!!
