Hey guys, I'm now in Rainbow Beach, an even smaller place than Airlie Beach, which I didn't think was possible!! But I'll start from where I left off! I spent all day Thursday (Susans 21st.... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!) just exploring Airlie Beach, which didn't really take long! So just dandered around looking in shops and wot not... bought myself a really nice canvas Aboriginal art piece, one which tells my story in Australia, so got that sent home along with 2 smaller prints! Happy days! Another present waiting for me when I get home, I'm good to myself!! I didn;t really do much else that day except the usual, bit of laundry and packed up my bag! So I'll not bore you any longer!
Friday we left pretty early on the long drive to Kroombit, and to Lochenbar Station! Our first main stop was Sarina where we tried our hands at bare-foot lawn bowling!! Oh yes, move over Grandma and Grandda there's a new bowler in the family! And I won my first game too!! Woohoo!!! It was a lot of fun actually!! We then travelled on to Kroombit after stopping off in different little towns. My first thoughts when we pulled into Lochenbar Station were "Oh dear... how many little critters are gonna be here??"!! But off the bus I got and got myself checked in! We were sleeping in fully converted stables which were a little cramped but nice all the same! So we got settled in, grabbed some dinner then sat down and waited to learn about whip cracking! We got to practice on small "harmless" whips and I managed to hit myself a few times before getting the technique just right! Then once I felt confident I moved on to the big whip! And I made it crack several times too!! Woo!! #Whip crack away whip crack away whip crack away!!# After that it was time for the mechanical bull!! I was getting very nervous waiting for my turn but it did eventually come up and after 3 bucks I was thrown off!! So not very good but sure! It was a hell of a lot of fun at any rate!!
Saturday we were up at 6 and at 7 we left the ranch to jump on our horses for some goat mustering! I was a little nervous but got a really nice horse so it was all good! We spent 2.5 hours on horseback riding through the bush, searching for goats, and guiding them back to the pens for a little goat rodeo!! We all got into teams of 3, one of us caught the goat, one flipped it and one branded it (all pretend of course!). So I was the brander, and our team came last! Our goat was hard to catch lol. But it was a really good laugh! Kroombit was definitely one of the highlights of my trip so far! Sadly we did have to leave at some point, so it was off to Rainbow Beach, gateway to Fraser Island! Tiny tiny little town!! You can walk the length of the main street in less than a minute!!
Today (Sunday) was Fraser Island day!! We left Rainbow Beach at 8.15 and got the barge across to Hook Point, where we proceeded to drive up 75 Mile Beach! The views were amazing, the sand and the sea!! Our first stop of the day was to the Coloured Sands which were pretty cool! Then it was off to the Maheno shipwreck which was impressive!! Got quite a few pics lol as per usual! Then down to Eli Creek, which was so gorgeous! I walked up stream, against the current which was quite difficult lol but the walk back down again with the current was so relaxing! Then it was off for some lunch! A buffet style again but I didn't stuff my face this time!! Lol. After lunch it was off to the famous Lake McKenzie, the lushest place I've ever seen!! White sands, blue blue water and green green forests!! And the water was so nice to swim in!! We spent around an hour there before moving on to Central Station for a walk through the rainforest! The habitats on Fraser are just so diverse, its beautiful!!
Well thats me all caught up now! Tomorrow I have a free day in Rainbow Beach so will hopefully do something exciting like sea kayaking with dolphins or diving with grey nurse sharks or even paragliding! Who knows!! I'll update again soon!!
Love and miss you all xxx
