Right, well, I suppose I should give this blog thing a go to keep you all updated...
Where to start...at the beginning! Well, I arrived in Buenos Aires (BA) on Friday 28th December around 9am BA time, after a long old flight via Atlanta. Luckily everything ran on time and the flight was actually quite pleasant. I was really looking forward to seeing Jim after 4 months and excited about being in another continent (and a warm one at that!)
Unfortunately after getting through the huge passport queue I found that my bag was not on the same plane as me! Luckily the bag turned up the next day at around 6pm but it meant a whole day was wasted waiting for Delta to get their arses in gear!
So once my bag found its way to me, the travelling feeling really started to kick in! That evening we made our way into the centre of BA to a little Parilla to try out some of the meat. We ordered a platter for 3 which came with pretty much all parts of the cow (some of which I avoided) and was a feast fit for an army of 10 I reckon!! It was pretty good despite us not being able to manage it all.
By day we toured some of the parks and sights of BA, all the while trying to remain as cool as possible in the 35 degree heat! As you'll see from the photos, the city has some interesting and varied sights. I think my favourite area was La Boca with its colourful and bustling atmosphere. Jim and I also managed to visit the Boca Juniors stadium while we were there to see where Maradona used to play :o)
Obviously I was in BA for New Year without a clue what to do or where to go. We were looking for somewhere to be at midnight to see in the New Year, but after a little research we found that the locals tend to spend their New Years Eve at home with their families, until 2am anyway, at which time they go out and party until around 10 in the morning!!
Fortunately we had planned to meet with some friends of Jim's he had met on his tour of the salt plains and they were staying near the Obelisk (the white column in the photos) so we headed down there to see if there was anything going on.
To our delight there were crowds of people seeking the same thing as us, so we stopped there and saw in 2008 with a bottle of champers!
After BA we headed for a Beach stop, which is where we are now and I will write more about soon. We are leaving for Iguazu falls later today!
