So over the border we are!
We have the next 2 weeks in Peru and already we can´t believe that were nearly at the end of our tour!
So with crossing over into Peru with out new guide Renzo (complete plonker!) we headed straight to Lake Tikili, we spent that day hiking and stopped for a lovely fish lunch.
After a short boat trip we arrived at island Amamtami where we had our home stay for the night we had an awesome family with 2 kids you'll see some pictures of Mario and Jimmy on James face book Mario loved my sun glasses and was the cutest kid ever!
We helped prepare dinner in their very back to basic kitchen and after food we had a dance evening where we all had to come in traditional clothing which was so much fun & real hard work - They know how to dance those calories off!
The following day we headed to the floating islands which were soooo impressive ... again they seamed to think in necessary to dress me up which was funny and looked around at all the crafts they make and sell on the islands, we also saw into their homes which are very small and basic and they have an island of their own just to use as the loo! They burn this after a certain amount of time and then create a new one! Crazy!
After heading back to Puno we spent the night celebrating Carmen´s 30th and found a really cool rock bar that did very strong vodka´s but awesome music and had a very cool vibe!
Now for the amazing part of the trip - The amazon! Best part of the trip - our gide was great and the lodge we stayed in was the best accommodation we´ve had so far, as well as the food too ... the whole experience was just a real one in a life time ... we took 4 hours on the boat and spotted Caymans along the way as well as Capybara (looks like a pig, hamster, hippo mixed into one!) We also had included in the 2 days we were there a trip to the local farm where they have apple banana´s - Best thing ever! Also a night hike to see nocturnal animals such as tarantulas and Bats and LOTS of frogs. And a hike with a canoe trip in the day where we saw parana's, a trogon (Bird) smiley spider, a sloth, howler monkys, wild boar and jaguar footprints! Just awesome. We also had one last trip at night in the boat to spot Caiman which was really good! We saw everything we wanted and so much more and already have plans to return for a much longer stay next time!
But with no time to stop we moved straight into out city tour the following day to see the circle terraces - Very cool and the slat lakes which went on for miles and miles .... which was followed by our 3 day hike - Oh yes the Lares Trek!
Right now this is a story and a half ... we walked for 3 days, up to a height of 4800 meters and for 30k ... That is impressive even if i say so myself! James loved it .. all of it ... the camping the hike the views the animals ... the lot .. me not so much to start ... If i'm honest i'm heart really wasn't in it and i wasn´t sure i'd finish it but you know what i did and man when i got to the top of the frigging mountain i wanted to cry so hard .... I has well and truly walked my ass off! But it was an amazing trip, the guides we had were so great and the porters were NUTS they were running past you with 25k of stuff on their backs James tried to chase one on the way down and lost him after about 10 steps ... Just incredible! But the views we had were fantastic and the feeling of achievement was overwhelming and i really am glad i did it!
We then rewarded ourselves with a massage upon return and a good meal at a great little place we found earlier in the week.
Hope everyone is well missing you all lots ...
