Thanks Mom and Dad!
Hey,
We are checking in from a tourist office on the main road in Perissa, a small beach town on Santorini, which is an island in the Cyclades of eastern Greece known for it's magnificent sunsets and black sand beaches among other things.
When we arrived at Athinos Port in Santorini it was very easy to find lodging from the very eager hotel representatives trying to usher us into their vans to take us to their hotels. We sifted through a couple of the offers until we found one which suited us monitarily and placed us in close proximity to a beach. Our stay has been wonderful and cheap, and we have only encountered one stressful/life threatening situation since we've been on the island...
Although the first couple days here were spent lounging (which was much appreciated and needed), we new we had to make a trek to Oia, a town perched high on top of cliffs on the other side of the island, where one can watch the most beautiful sunset in all of Greece. We could have taken a bus, or a boat ride, or even rented a car or a four wheeler, but the most frugal and exciting way to get to Oia surely was to rent a moped (scooter). So our journey began accross the windy island, with Kristina clutching onto Nate and the moped for her dear life as cars zoomed past us and the wind thrashed all around us, pushing us around the road. It only got worse when we reached the final stretch to Oia. Sharp turns hugged the cliffsides, the roads had no barriers between us and the hundreds of feet down, the wind was stronger and Kristina began to threaten to take the bus back. We survived the journey there, had a nice dinner and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. And we only got lost a couple times trying to navigate back in the dark without sweatshirts, but next time we'll definately take the bus.
So that was our hard experience on Santorini, we will be leaving the day after tomorrow since the ferry is full tomorrow, and hopefully meeting Drew and Alaina for the last time in Mykanos for our last few days in Greece. We'll keep everyone posted. By for now.
Love,
Nate and Kristina
p.s. the pictures our taking too long to upload, so we might just have to wate until we get back to show everyone. We will keep trying though.
