Nat and Beck Go Large!
We moved to the next town Ica today. Our taxi driver who took us there offered to take us on a tour of two wineries and a chocolate factory, so after we checked into our hostel (which is the closest thing to a prison cell ever!), we piled back into the taxi and went to the chocolate factory. We could only watch them making the chocs from outside, for hygiene reasons (no smelly backpackers allowed!), soafter 5 minutes, we piled into the main attraction (the shop) where we tried some chocolates then bought half the shop out!
Next we went to one of the largest wineries in Peru, where they make red and white wine, and the local brew, Pisco. Walked round the bodega with our taxi driver/tour guide, with Becky translating for Sarah (very well done Becks), then had a few samples of each wine from the nice lady. Me and Beck bought a bottle of Pisco each, then we went to the next winery, which was more of the same, but on a smaller scale. The girl there also gave us a few more samples (feeling quite tipsy at this point), we bought more Pisco, then headed back to Ica.
We tried to go for a good slice of cake, but don't think it exists in Peru (don't think good food exists in Peru) so we consoled ourselves with pizza, then headed back to the hostel. I decided to take a shower, but the dodgy hostel also had dodgy electrics, and after 2 electric shocks (not good when you're standing under water) gave up on trying to be clean. Becky and Sarah decided not to risk it, especially as the lightbulb had also blown in the process, so we went out for dinner covered in perfume instead! We can't wait for the proper bo showers in the Lima hotel tomorrow!
