Nat and Beck Go Large!
Our first couple of days in Chile consisted of mainly sleeping and de-minging ourselves and our clothes! Hot showers went down a treat, even if Becky did go for a burton in the tiny cubicle ended up starfished between the walls trying not to fall. Ooops! We were staying in the student area of Santiago so there were a few nice cafes and things where we sampled the local cuisine. The coffee is sooo nice over here, its made from real coffee beans and not from small animals and dust like the stuff in Fiji!
On Sunday we for a mince around the city, looked at some of the important buildings (they're not really that pretty) and went to the national museum (cos its free on Sundays). That was quite good, there was loads of displays and info about the Spanish invasions etc. Natalie decided that from the look of the portraits of some of the more important Spaniards they must have all been inbred 'cos they all have the same squiffy eyes and pug noses! See we do take notice of the important things in world history! Also we keep getting followed by stray dogs - soz mums its not our fault!
After 2 days of mainy mincing around we met up with 2 of Natalie's friends from uni, Lucy and Cherise. The South Americans have real trouble saying Cherise so if anyone asks she just says her name is Lucy too, it cracks us up! When they arrived they'd been on a bus for a day and were a bit smelly, so we sent them off to get showered and then went to find something to eat. We had Chinese and a bottle or 2 of vino. We were going to go out for a little drink (no honestly we were only going for one, we hadn't even washed our hair!) but ended up in a couple of bars near our hostel, and then another late night bar somewhere over the other side of Santiago. According to them we made them drink, but really it was the other way around. They don't seem to realise how impressionable and easily lead we are! For there side of the story see www.offexploring.com/lucyatkinson. Highlight of the night was Cherise getting chatted up by some bloke who looked like Harry potter!
The next day was spent in a coma in bed, we did manage to surface for food, but that was about it! Had pizza and a relatively early night as we decided to go to Argentina in the morning. Chile is relatively expensive for South America and the 2 girls rave about Argentina so next stop is Mendoza which is about 6 hours away.
Love Beck and Nat xxx
