Soooo....
Following the bungi madness, i departed the brilliant town of Queenstown and headed back up to Christchurch (where i'd originally began my trip). I stayed in a little hostel called Frienz (how very cool of them!) and cooked some dinner (chicken salad: i know arent we good for backpackers) with two other girls from my bus, Jess and Vinnie and just watched a few episodes of Criminal Minds. The next morning was an early start and we met the bus at 7.30am. We then drove all morning until we reached a quiet little seaside town called Kaikoura! The weather was absolutely glorious and so Jess and i decided to go for a little stroll. This ended up being a 4hr hike around the coastline and through the mountains. The hours just sped past as we chatted along and enjoyed the scenery. We even stopped off for a spot of lunch at the cuttest little seafood shack at the side of the road. They were selling fresh crayfish salads, scallops, mussles etc for $6 which is 2 pounds!!! we had some scallops with rice and salad and they were delicious! That evening we all just sat around the fire and some Canadian girls made us melted marshmellows and chocolate inbetween biscuits around the fire! lovely!
The following morning we had to be up at 4.30am to go swimming with wild dolphins. After being kitted out, we headed out to sea for 25m and found a big pack of dolphins. We slipped our masks on and got in the water and were instructed to make dolphin sounds in order to attract their attention! well we did that alright. before you knew it, there were dozens of them swimming around you and doing all sorts of show off tricks! the experience was utterly unbelievable and so worth every penny! Several people were being sick off the side of the boat due to the rough sea, so after a while, we headed back for hot chocolate, biscuits and a long drive to the ferry that takes you over to the north island! What a great way to start the day!
Wellington was the port that we arrived at on thenorth island and after getting our luggage off the boat (much like baggage collection in an airport) we were back on the bus and being dropped off at our various hostels : i.e Base or YHA! lol Jess and i stayed at Base and didnt really like it very much so booked onto the bus to depart Wellington the following day. Several drivers have told us that this is the place to be but the weather was absolutely attrocious and the city (or big town) didnt have much apart from a wide selection of clothes shops which is bad bad news for me! Instead, my new partner and i set off in search of an Indian (which was rubbish) before heading to the cinema to watch Four Holidays (which was also rubbish) - overall impression on Wellie....ehh not great! x
