Hello my little ones, Im so sorry its taken me so long to write. Internet access is scarse and when i have found it it takes 20mins to upload a page (i wish i was joking) or cuts off while im typing - NO fun! Anyways, last time i updated you we had just been sand boarding in Swakop. After that we visited a seal colony which absolutely stank. As far as im concerned they are lardy, lazy smelly creatures and i'd be happy not seeing them again!
We also saw a shipwreck on the skeleton coast that occured a few nights before. Its called that because back in the day ships without navigation systems used to crash near the beach and the sailors were happy to have made it to shore only to die of starvation and dehidration as the shore is the desert!! Their bodies would then be eaten by back black jackalls and other animals.
From there we drove to somethinmg-skoppe where we camped in a bush! Our tour guides Leticia anmd Hermann have been giving us little suprised along the way and here they suprised us by creating a bonfire and cooking us dinner (cottage pie) in this cave deep in the mountain! it was wicked. There were cave paintings and funny looking rocks all around us. Some people chose to sleep in the cave overnight - but i thought it best to use my tent after discovering a huge 6legged spider that is an ancestor to the scorpion!!!
The following day we drove inland towards Etosha national park. We noticed a massive change in temperature from the coast, with temperatures reaching 45C in midday! No need for the hoodies anymore!!! Etosha was phenomenal! We stayed in one of the many resorts that are spread out over the 22.500 km squared park! There were these cute little lodges and a lovely swimming pool which we got to use - although we had to use opur tents for accomodation!!! Next to our campsite was a watering hole where lots and lots opf animals gathered to drink. Our main aim is to see the BIG 5 during our trip and 3 of these were spotted here: Black Rhino, Elephant and Lions. This watering hole has a small wall which is about 15m from the water and seating all around which means that we were a within a small distance from the animals and managed to get some cracking photos!
Also during our stay there we fitted in 3 game drives which means we saw lots of giraffes and voltures, winderbeast, white and black rhinos, eprides of lions immediately after a hunt which means their faces were covered in blood and elephants which came within touching distance of my truck window! Luckily i managed to capture the latter on video which is amazing! There were about 30 elephants including 3 tiny bubbas who trumpeted so loud next to me i nearly wet myself!
Less interesting animals also included oryx, kudu, zebra and springbok (all of which i ate in Swakop and tasted yummy ) and a wide selection of birds that i didnt really care to catch the name of!
Finally, from Etosha we drove a few more hundred miles to the capital of Namibia which is Windhoek. We went out for dinner to Joe's cafe and bar where i had more Oryx for dinner! yum yum, yum! Also had a few beverages and went to bed a little later than usual (that is to say 12 instead of our usual 10!!!)
The following day we had the Botswana border crossing and we stayed in a little area (which name eacapes me at the mo). We were going to camp but chose top stay in these bushman huts instead for 2.50 (pounds)!!! That was a fun experience - slepped like a log for the 1st time since i started which was lovely! WE also were taken on a bushman walk by some sand people who dont wear very much and talk a clicky language!!! v.funny. this morning we had pancakes for breaky before setting off for Muah where i am now!
Hope everyone is well at home!
Love you all!
