Well!! The drive from Luang Prabang to Luang Namtha beat them all! THIS WAS THE CRAZIEST YET!!! Crazy pot holed roads as usual, winding around the mountians, but pair that with a crazy angry formula 1 wannabe Lao driver and it wasnt good!!!! 9 hours took 7.5 in the end, so we had that to thank him for, but gee mee, few very close calls a few times with massive lorries etc, was an awful jounrey all in all! Was very relieved, and surprised to arrive in one peice! There were 2 monks also on the 9 seat mini van so perhaps having them aboard kept us safe from harm! One poor Lao girl was sick on there, driver didnt even flinch, just kept firing on, foot flat to the mat!
Arrived in Luang Namtha and already a difference - no hassling tuk tuks drivers all stampeding towards you. Shred a tuk tuk with 8 others, 4 of which were monks (heading to China I found out - at a distance - you cant go too close to them a woman, so every time I climbed back on ths bus after a break and squeezd past them into my tiny seat they would properly move over, as to not touch me, be too close etc). Was a good 10/15 mins via tuk tuk into the 'town ' - Luang Namtha is literally one road with a few bards and travel shops and guesthouses. Thats all - so I wont get lost here - HORRAY!!!! But people come here not for the town but for its nearby trecking and kayaking and sports etc. I am liteally using it as a night stop over and will head to Muang Sing tomorrow as its even more beautiful for trecking and seeing hill tribes etc. Again hadnt pre booked accomodation but found somwhere no problem, cheap and cheerful, had food, met some people at the bar etc and booked onto my 2 hour bus to Muang Sing for tomrorrow. 2 hours seems like a dream compared to the recent jounreys I have been doing so that wil be a treat!
