Washington... the city of memorials, trees and museums!
Arrived in the city safe, hotels amazing and right in the middle of everything; which I soon realised too late when i took a taxi from the station and it came to $3!
In the past two days here I've tried to pack in as much as I can, but sight-seeing is surprisingly time-consuming - especially when most of the attractions are free! I've done the city wide trolly tour which was amazing despite the typical loud (and fat) American tourists sitting beside me. Went to Georgetown yesterday, which is the 'Soho' of Washington, very trendy student area, was very difficult not to buy anything, but I resisted!
Today I went to the Holocaust museum, which was interesting but very graphic. Viewed some gruesome videos of emaciated bodies being dragged around, extreme medical experiments, scale models of gas chambers and piles of shoes and hair.Spent almost 3 hours in the place - I am clearly not going to get round to seeing all the Smithsonians on this trip! Visited the National Art gallery this afternoon, saw all the presidents portraits and this really cool modern art display - again it was another 2 hour visit - lets just say my feet were knackard by the time I got back to the hotel.
Oh best bit of the day so far.. walking through China town I saw these chef's working in the window of a restaurant making fresh dumplings, so I went inside and got some to go... hands down the best seafood dumplings ever! And they only cost $6!
