Viva Brazil!
Day 5 of my travels and I am currently in the bus station in Sao Paulo after a 5hour mini-bus drive from Parati awaiting the next part of our journey - a 15 HOUR night bus to Iguacu do Foz!! So far we have seen and done so much - I'm absolutely loving Brazil.
Arrived in Rio on Saturday morning - wandered down to Copacabana beach, strolled along the beachfront to an old fort and explored the tunnels underneath. Drank coconut milk straight from a coconut - lovely and refreshing.
Then went to the Christ the Redeemer statue on Sunday after spending a few hours chillin on the beach of course!! Explored a market at Ipanema beach, as well as the beach itself. On Monday we got the mini-bus down the coast to Parati which is a gorgeous little colonial town. The tide comes in and up the streets to clean them! We went to one beach where there were surfers and sunbathed there for a few hours before going back to Parati to meet everyone for a Thai meal. Then plenty caiprinhas and dancing till the early hours!!
Yesterday we had a boat trip around some of the islands in the bay and kept stopping to swim to the shore and then sunbathe on the roof of the boat. Dinner was made on board and was delicious fresh fish. The beaches were deserted though, it was a mini paradise - absolutely beautiful.
Later we got stranded for a while when the boat ran out of fuel and so had to be towed back to the bay. Then we had caiprinha making lessons after tea in the pousada (which was a gorgeous little hotel where all the rooms faced into a courtyard that had its own pool and an eating area that looked like a beach hut).
So today we keep on travelling.. its really scenic, but tiring aswell. It will be worth it though when we reach the falls, still to come is snorkelling, pirainha fishing and living in a marshland for a few days!!
It's a good life...
