29th Day 9
We had a long and very bumpy journey to the Vietnam border, so bumpy that we had to stop and we went and sat in a random locals house. They were very friendly and kids swarmed round to see the westerners. When we arrived the hotel was amazing, the shower even had a seat and the double bed was so big that i spread out and couldnt touch the edges. We then took a motorcylec ride with a company, so we had a driver each (mine was the best he let me pip the horn to the whistle song!) and we went to the top of Sam Mountain to see the sunset where we could aslo see the cambodia and vietnam border. On the way we saw fish farms and the local life, its was an AMAZING way to get around, so much fun.
30th - Ho Chi Minh City
We explored before meeting the newbies that were joinin our tour, and then said goodbye to ones that were leaving. We went and played some more drinking games at Go Go Go, then a few of us girls wanted a boogie, so went into a small place where the locals were really (really) happy to see us! we had a drink and a dance and a giggle, and then kept noticing the local girls talking to old men, and realised we were infact in a prozzy bar!! haha! so we finished our drinks outside..whilst temptin western men in and sayin its a great place, the manageress loved us!!
31st - Cuchi Tunnels
here we saw the tunnels from the war time, they were so impressive, i dont know how they lived in them though. We got to crawl through one which was good fun, but I don;t get how they can make such amazing underground tunnels and not decent roads, paths and bridges..its bump city!! Then it was our first overnight train, which was actually pretty good fun and exciting!! We then arrived in Nha Trang, had a day to chill so beached it which was just what we needed! We had a swimming pool, hit the markets and then went out. One of the new Ozzy girls got very drunk and told us everything about her sex life which was a massive giggle! Thanks emily lol! The 2nd day it rained as we were told the Typhoon was coming. But we still went to the mudbaths and hot spring and swimming pool place which was lovely. We then had another overnight train to Denang..well thats what we thought but we had a very unlucky journey. The Storm had hit further up the track, and spent 21 hours on a train not going anywhere! Eventually a train came heading back to Nha Trang as we decided to fly because roads were flooded, then that train also got stuck due to floods!! Was ridic!! So we got a bus to come near the track and collect us, so basically spent 28hours to get back to the place we set off from! New experience as Mr Pong our tour guide would say! So we had 4 hours sleep before a the flight!
4th Hoi An
When we arrived we explored the streets and went to get some tailor made clothes, i got a dress and some trousers which turn into a dress hehe! Ready for the next day. We then cycled through the streets, and through the water as there was lots of flooding which was funny! Then we got a power cut which wasnt funny, and had a long wet walk to a resturant with the slowest service ever..so Pong went and helped in the kitchen lol!
5th Hoi An to Hue
In the mornin I got my dress altered, really nice, and we headed to Hue. When we arrived a guy on our trip - Adam - had a message from his mum saying to go home because his grandad was really ill, was so sad. Hes lovely and we all miss him! We did some sight seeing, went to the Citadel (emporers 2nd residence, with 3 walls and a moat!). Vicci and Emily dressed up in the emporers clothes which were available! On our walk back there was a man just completely passed out half on the path half on the busy busy road, we wanted to help but the locals were doing nothin and then some1 said he's either begging or going to mug u! so we didnt! our bad!We then went to a posh place for food and there were instruments being played, even tiny tea cups! Then went for some goodbye drinks with Adam.
6th. Next morning we went to see a tomb by Dragon boat and motorcycle- lol get confused theres so much history it goes straight over my head!! Anyway there was no body in there, ithad been buried in secret and 200men who burried him were killed! We then saw a Pagoda where a while ago a Monk lived there and he went to protest against the Diem government by covering himself in petrol, meditating, and settin himself on fire! crazy! It was then time for another overnight train. Nearly missed it due to some confusion, not havin much luck with trains!! I watched out the window for ages admiring the view, so nice to seethere simple lives and wildlife.
7th - we arrived on outskirts on Hanoi early, and at 5.30 the streets were full of people doing thai chi and other exercises. Saw a nice firy red sunrise. We took a boat trip along the amazing Halong Bay which was sunny and beautiful! No swimming tho but the next day we kayaked around some of the lagoons then got the bus to the capitals centre of Hanoi. We stopped at a handicapped arts and crafts place, there work was AMAZING!! so detailed! We also saw a live pig on the back of a motorcycle, we have seen waterbuffalos and chickens all alive like this to keep the meat fresh!! In Hanoi, we were welcomed by pretty mosaics and tall thin buildings, supposedly to keep spirits out. Streets were bustling and each one had a different trade from metal to cuddly toys!! We explored and it was very hard to cross the road, u just had to walk and let the traffic dodge u!! no green cross code over here!! We then went for meal and had a not so nice beer Hoi on a street/busy road bar! crazy!!
9th We went sight seeing to see Ho Chi Minhs body (1st president who also brought peace to the north and south) but it was closed! so we saw his museum, which was very weird and abstract and very random lol! we then went to the one pillar pagoda - Van Miel?? then the University place and stroked the turtles head for good luck! After lunch we had some delicious ice cream from "Fanny"! We then went to the market which was defo for locals as they are quite rude to the westoners unlike in cambodia where they begged for you money! We spent hours trying to change our money into $ but had a lovely meal follwed by a water puppet show which was funny and weird!! We then said goodbye to the oldies and hello to the newbies, but unlucky Renee booked on wrong Roam Loas so we had to leave her with the group behind us :( !! next up Loas!!
