(bit late updating blog...!!)
31st Jan
Flew to Fiji, and when I got to the airport I had to rush to book my island hopping and get on the last local bus of the day. I accidently got in the wrong cue (one for locals) at customs, luckily they let me through as the visitor cue was massive, would have missed bus! I rushed to book my island hopping, didn't seem like the best of people to go with but I was in a hurry - just managed to get the local bus. It was rammed but after being in asia I was set on having my bag on board with me, was a squeeze lol! Was a 3 1/2 hour bumpy slow ride - think it only had about 3 gears!! But seeing as it cost about £4 as opposed to a £90 taxi, i didn't mind! Arrived at Pacific Harbour on the south of the main island at 9.30pm so it was dark and there were no street lights. 2 locals sat next to me got off at the same stop and got their brither to walk me to the hostel - was a long dark road, very nice of him! I grabbed a quick bite to eat before heading to my 24bed dorm, lots of insects and slept alrt minus an alarm going off for ages at 3am!!
1st Feb I woke up and went to get breakfast before my shark dive when a guy who had said he was also doing the shark dive told me the bus was there, early!! I got into the bus asked a few questions and realised it was a different company, so got out to finish breakfast lol! I had to get a taxi to mine. There were 6 of us and like 6 huge big fijian men as instructors/feeders! We got the boat out and they chucked the food in and we went down. It was AMAZING!!!! Just a massive feeding frenzy, then the sharks came and lots of different types. Loads of huge fish too, plus lots of little tropical fish around the edges waiting for the leftovers. It was just spectacular to watch and I even went into the middle of it all and stroked a nurse shark...eekk!! When I went back up I was like "WOW", best dive ever, then someone mentioned "wait until the next one" - I didnt know there were two dives included....even better! And it was better, the bullsharks were huge and fighting over the food, and as the scent had spread a TIGER SHARK!!! came right up to us - 14ft called scarback - sooo scary!!! It circled, ate a little but seemed more interested in us humans. I was on the end of our lil line so I really freaked out as it looked like it was coming straight at me, then the fiji guy swam inbetween us and the shark trying to push it away as it swam over us, people could reach up and touch it but I kept my hands to myself lol!! So shocking but awesome!! One of the divers with us as a £15 grand underwater camera - said he'd email pics but no show so far :( he had done ~ 2000 dives and never seen a tiger shark - it was my 6th lol! When we got back I went to the shop to buy some well needed bug repellant!! On the way back a rugby match was just starting outside resort. Was fiji team vs. uprising resort locals/staff/friends. There were warming up for tournament in LA the following week. Realised they were going to be on the same flight as me lol! Watched the match, got a team photo and they also stayed in our dorm, very friendly bunch, all of the fijian people were so lovely.
