Arrived 1am 26 October in the pouring rain and managed to check in to the hostel and find a free bed in the dark without too much trouble. Woke up around 10am to find only one other girl still in the room; turned out she was an Aussie (from Melbourne) and we hit it off right away. Weather was good. Spent the whole day with Moira - we ended up doing some shopping and promised ourselves to do some sightseeing the next day as we felt bad for not doing anything touristy.
At night we spent 1.5 hours getting to a town called Uddingston to meet up with some Scottish girls Moira met in Belfast; when we finally got to the station we realised the last train was in half an hour and that there was nothing in Uddingston except the bar (called Angels). I expected lots of bikers, but the crowd turned out to be good and the comedian we saw was quite funny, although his accent was a bit hard to decipher at times! Moira and I danced to the lady who sang in the breaks and had a generally fantastic time - go the Aussies!
27 Oct: Moira and I got up for a day of sightseeing to find the weather had turned to a light drizzle, but we weren't bothered too much as we spent most of it inside. Visited the University of Glasgow on the way to the Hunterian Art Gallery, where we saw lots of art by Whistler and Charles Rennie Mackintosh (a famous Scottish artist). In the afternoon we visited the Glasgow School of Art where there were lots of mosaics of various artists and an amazing giant statue of a winged angel. We walked down the street and had a hot chocolate and a piece of apple pie in the cafe of the Glasgow Film Theatre before returning to the hostel. My feet ached after two days of walking around in my boots!
28 Oct: checked out of Glasgow Hostel and walked to Central Station in fairly steady rain; caught train to Edinburgh and went straight to hostel (in rain again).
