Well I have been in New zealand for nearly a week now and I have spent over a week In auckland and the surrounding area. Auckland itself is a very small city compared to some of the places i have been to and this is the biggest city in the NZ! so the rest of NZ is going to be very small with alot of wilderness, which is great.
On my first day in new zealand I went exploring around auckland and had finished seeing the sites after an hour! I tried to find something to eat that wasn't a burger bar or fast food joint but with no luck (NZ looks like it going to be a place to live on fats food) anyway I met a few people from my hostel and alot of possible Homeless people staying in my hostel room. I met up with some people from back home whom are staying in auckland and have been out a few times with them, including nights out to the local Auckland students union bar and a togo party (which was surprising as we ony went out for a few drinks). I have also been out a few times with one or two people from my hostel and have also been out alone just to meet random people one night. On that night I met up with alot of swedish student studying english in auckland (whom were on a night out) and some dutch dude working in wellington. anyway was pretty good as it was a bit random and different from what i would normally do.
New zealand technology is the equivalent of the Uk in the early 1990s, internet is very slow and is almost completly the old dial up system! which can be very frustrating and is very expenesive!
Anyway the main reason Im in auckland for this length of time is to learn to scuba dive, which I am know qualified to do! yay. I first learnt in a local swimming pool and then headed out to a local dive area called Goat islan (which had black sand)d, where no one was around and saw the real new zealand! while I was there I saw a whole lot of cool fish and a huge! jellyfish!.... no joke! on how big this thing was! even my instructor was absolutly stunned at the size of this thing and then she got stung by it! so we decided to swim away fast! I also had to simulate drowning as one of my tests to pass the course and guess what simulated drowning turned into actual drowning 12 meters down!!!! but still passed as I still did all the things I needed to do but in a massive panic instead of a calm controlled environment. :) lucky....
anyway now that I have passed I plan on doing alot of diving further on in this journey but i just need to find someone else to dive with first. Tomorrow is my last full day in Auckland and I have no idea what I plan on doing. On monday Im start my tour around New zealand on the Kiwi experience I have heard alot of good and bad things about it. I figure if it is not what Im looking for then I will just get off and Hire or buy a car. Im also looking at getting my NZ tax and bank sorted but i figure i won't sort that stuff out until i find a place / if i find a place i really want to live in or if im offered an opportunity that is too good to miss as it can be harder to get these things if you don't have a perminant address (which I don't)
anyway thats all for know
take it easy people
