Naomi and Becky's Travels
We arrived in Canberra after travelling on an overnight bus with the world's most dodgy driver!! We were sure he was drunk! Made it in one piece in the end though after a 9 hour journey.
Everyone we spoke to about Canberra asked us why on earth we were going there!! Said it was boring! Thought we would give it a look - as its the capital and all! Think they were pretty much right though... it's like a bit of a ghost town - you walk around and there's no one about! Apparently they couldn't decide on a capital - between Melbourne and Sydney so they just chose a plot of land inbetween and built Canberra!
Luckily we only planned to stay 1 night. Stayed at the Victor Lodge - quite a nice little b&B - did however have our forst encounter of the creepy crawly kind - there was a huge hairy spider on the wall of the corridor leading to our room! Soon had it removed by a woman that worked there who said 'oh it's just a small one - it does jump though'!! didn't look small to us!
In Canberra we basically did the cultural thing - went to the National Gallery, the National Museum, the National Botanic Gardens, Parliament house and Old Parliament House.
Saw loads of cockatoos flying around - still haven't got used to seeing them - and parrots flying everywhere!
Wouldn't recommend a visit if anyone was considering it! Glad we went and saw for ourselves though.
