My final destination in california was San Diego for 3 days and it was a pretty good time there. My hostel was not bad although there were only 2 toilets for 45 people on both floors! But it was clean and it had a free dinner the first night i got there which was good. The best thing was that the staff were pretty laid back, i mean you were not allowed to drink on the front porch but everybody did and there were areas that were supposed to be closed after 11 but they never were.
I met some great people there too, i spent the first day just having a few beers and getting to know the local area. The beach was only about 1min away so once i found that i chilled there for the rest of the day.
My first full day in San D i got on a couple of buses and headed for Balboo park which is where most of the attractions are. I headed for the world famous Zoo there and the place was huge, i took a bus tour in the zoo which took 45 min to give an idea of the size. There were loads of pretty cool animals there and i spent most of the day just making my way around. When i got out i headed for the science museum which was not really that great it was basically a smaller version of the museum that i went to in San Fran. Then it was back to the hostel and i ordered pizza from pizza hut for dinner which took an hour to get to me.
At night i went out with one of my room mates and a couple of girls that we had been drinking with the previous night. We headed down to the beach with a beer cooler, beer and wood! They have loads of fire pits on the beach so we found an available one and eventually got our fire going. The beach was really busy and we even caught some Grenchin (type of fish) at the end of the night. Its apparently something that people always do when there is a full moon, they wash up on the beach and you have to catch them with your hands before the tide take them back into the sea.
The next day after spending the morning on the beach i managed to get the people i was hanging out with to go to Tijuana with me. The girls had a car so we drove down to the border and walked accross. Its a kinda crazy place, a lot of poor people and some pretty shady areas. You cant take two steps without someone either asking for change or asking if you want to buy something. I had only one goal there (other than staying alive) and that was to drink some tequila with a mexican.
After having some traditional mexican food (i have no idea what the food was as the menu was not written in english!) we headed to the bars. We found one that had buckets of beer for $10 and free fusbal, pool and a mechanical bull ride. The waiting staff also spoke good english which was good for us. We spent the whole night there and at the end of the night i ordered some good tequila and drank a shot with the mexican waiter. He then gave us 4 free tequilas which was pretty cool although no one wanted to drink them so i had to drink 3 of them too (my room mate joined me for the last one) We got back over the border at around midnight and got back to the hostel for 2am.
had a great time in San Diego, looking forward to seeing my friends in St Louis next.
