Neil's Round the World Trip!
I was rudely awoken by my parents at 5.30am and was swiftly taken to Glasgow Airport for my flight to London Heathrow. I managed to persuade my parents to buy me a few last minute items like a travel towel and travel adaptor. My parents walked me to the gate to wave me off; my mum started crying so after a quick hug I made a run for it!
My flight was fine and I even got a free ham and cheese panini which was a little unexpected (because I travel budget airlines usually). I never realised how large Heathrow Airport is; it's huge! I had to get a bus to go to a different terminal and then just sat and chilled for an hour listening to "La Ritournelle" by Seb Tellier (Shaun, I'm hooked). I didn't want to waste my batteries so I bought a Guardian and sat near my gate and was then ambushed by a family waiting on a Zurich flight who starting chatting loudly about what a great Prime Minister David Cameron will be; not what you need when you're tired and groggy!
I looked up at the departure screen and it soon dawned on me while I had been put into a trance by the right-wing rantings of the family travelling to Zurich, my gate had been changed. The problem was it was the complete opposite end of the terminal so I rushed up and forgot to hand them my other boarding card (not just my BA card) so I had to wait for practically everyone else to be boarded before they realised I was on the flight (and they laughed at my passport photo!). However this had it's advantages as I walked in last and took a wrong turn right into 1st class. The stewardess couldn't have been more kind- "Hello Mr Morrison how are you today? I hope everything is to your satisfaction?" Moments later they realised and I was escorted to my economy seat; oh well was worth a try!
The Quantas flight was excellent, my seat had an interactive screen to view movies, listen to music and play games. Although for some reason I seemed to constantly be on Blunt FM. Even when I changed, his warbly voice would soon return...
I watched "Broken Flowers" starring Bill Murray and then slept for most of the journey. Although I had difficulty finding the right position to get to sleep. Eventually I opted for the "Ida Violin" method which was scrunching the pillow under my neck and jamming it against the window a la violinista. I got to sleep but my neck is still stiff!
I finally got the "what the hell am I doing?" thought as I looked out the window upon a red sunset sky somewhere over India. The moment passed and I realised I am trying to see the world before I sell my soul to the corporate world!
