Neil's Round the World Trip!
I got up early and checked out then I swopped my used Bill Bryson book with Ben and promised to meet up in Christchurch, New Zealand on the 16/17th to hitchhike around the South Island or hire a car? I then went to the airport and got my flight to New Zealand.
I arrived in Auckland around 5pm and was warmly greeted by my relatives Jack and Margaret who emigrated to New Zealand in the 60s (a wise move I have to say). They drove me to their nice house in the suburb of Albany just north of Auckland over the bridge. I much prefer the warm maybe a little breezy weather here to the sticky, humid weather in Fiji.
I had a great wholesome meal: tatties, sausages and veg (including the New Zealand sweet potato called a kumara). I chatted to Jack and Margaret until quite late and had a dram of whisky before I went to sleep in a double bed (aah...the luxury). I then dreamt of having a hot shower tomorrow!
Here is the summary for Fiji:
BEST BITS!
Friendly people!
Serenaded as you leave (Isa Lei farewell song!)
Kava ceremony.
Fijian sunsets-amazing!
Snorkelling in the crystal clear waters.
Remoteness and relaxed vibe.
Deep sea fishing
WORST BITS
Fiji time (can frustrate you sometimes)
Cockroach in food
Cold showers
Mosquitoes
The 2 Mancs
