Neil's Round the World Trip!
We got up early again! I need a lie-in!! We drove to the nearby Pangupulli Lake and walked along the lake shoreline. We then drove further south until we reached the historic city of Valdivia. We wandered into the busy, fish market and looked at the amazing range of fish and shellfish available. There were huge sealions eating all the fish guts that the fishmongers were throwing out.
Therewere also Mapuche earrings and necklaces for sale. We checked into our hostel called Aires Buenos. It was really nice.
We then went to a seafood reastaurant down by the harbour. There was a Chilean football match on a screen inside. Colo Colo (the Celtic/Hearts) of Chile were playing the once popular but now distinctly average Universidad de Catholica (Rangers). There is actually a Chilean team called Rangers who were founded by Scottish immigrants in the early 1900s. Colo Colo won 2-1 and every goal was greeted with a resounding applause and screams.
We ate our delicious seafood meals, I had Merluza (hake) and it was fantastic. Anyway after our meal we headed to an old Spanish Fortress and walked around the battlements before driving on to the Kunstmann Brewery. This is the best Chilean beer, we had a look in the museum and then had a column of beer. We could pour our own pints and yeah it was good fun. We then went back to our hostel, visited the local supermarket and bought some mystery meat which I couldn't eat as it reminded me of the pork I'd eaten in Puchilemu!
We then watched a really funny American film called Old Skool in the hostel tv room. We all called it a night around 1am.
