Neil's Round the World Trip!
We got up early at 7 and had a breakfast of fruit salad and coffee. Edgar stank out the toilet and so we all decided to go later rather than spend a few minutes in the vicinity of the loo.
We drove across a smaller Salar and reached the railway line which links Chile with Bolivia. We messed around on it and took photos. We then drove to an area of land which resembled moon rock.
Myself and Gabe ran off into the rocky shrubland when we stopped to help another jeep, to let rip. Gabe had stomach problems and I hadn't been for a while. I thought my bush was very secluded but obviously no bush hasn't been used with so many travellers; there was pink and white toilet paper strewn across the bushes and desert.
We drove to a lake and had lunch whilst watching wild foxes slowly creep closer to us and eat the scraps of clod chicken we'd thrown away. We drove on and reached a sulphuric lake wihth flamingoes. Our crazy French friend Florence ran across sulphuric mud pools to get a better photo (her and her father were worse than Japanese when it came to taking photos). However the mud was deep and she was up to her thighs in no time. It was hilarious to watch, her shoes were destroyed! We drove across barren mountains and then suddenly our engine went.
We chilled out on the mountains in the sunshine while our driver and his wife frantically tried to get the car started aided by papa. After some time the car was repaired and we continued on towards our next hostel. It was a mud shack; by a pink lake. The dorm was freezing, we sniffed out the local shop and bought some Salta beer. We then played football with another tour group. However we all forgot we were playing at 4500m. Yeah after a few minutes our saliva tasted of blood and our lungs felt like they were going to explode! I scored a goal and played well but my team lost after someone invoked "last goal's the winner".
We returned to our mud shack and had dinner which was spaghetti and meat. We drank beer and played cards but it was so cold we sat around the table in our sleeping bags. I was completely covered other than my face and the girls called me "the slug". We sat playing cards in the candlelight until 1am.
