Matty got up wih Tally this morning and found something had got into our rubbish bin over night and had spread its contents all over the place! We picked it all back up again and then began packing up outside as black clouds were looming. It wasn't long before it started to rain and I had to wake Nick up to pack up the beds before they got soaked. It meant we were on the road much earlier then we planned but at least we made it into Tumbarumba before the town became too busy. We went to the toilet dump first and I cleaned out our toilet while Nick filled up with water. I must have been half asleep still because I ended up tipping the toilet cap down into the dump point. I had to put a cleaning towel down onto the dump point and reach in with a pair of cooking tongs to fish it back out - both the tongs and the towel then went in the bin and I spent 20 minutes disinfecting myself in the bathrooms!! Next stop was the laundry and we had a coffee at the bakery while we waited before getting yet more groceries. It was 1130 am by the time we left town and the drive out to the Hume Highway was stunning - Pattersons Curse was in full bloom and the hills were carpeted in purple all around us. It took us two hours to get to Howlong, a small town on the banks of the Murray on the NSW border. We had hoped to camp by the river for a few days but the camp area was very small, shabby and too close to the road. We stopped and made a quick lunch and then drove an hour down the road finding a great camp on the Victorian side of the Murray outside Yarrawonga. The camp was huge but a large number of spots seemed taken by unoccupied tents. We managed to find a spot at the end of the row on the banks of the river and not too far from the toilets. It also looked like a spot that only we could fit in but who knows!! While Nick and I set up the van the kids went down to the river and had a paddle. Tally joined them but Katharine stressed out that she would get caught in the current and she had to be tied up instead. We made a coffee and sat and enjoyed the view for a couple of hours while using the Internet - it's shocking how much we've missed instant access to it!! The kids reappeared when dinner was ready but they were all covered in muddy sand and needed a shower before they could sit in the van. After dinner they sat and watched TV for a while so Nick and I escaped for a short walk with the dog - she didn't seem to notice the rabbits scampering around us!! It's a pretty place here and a relief to find that there are some nice spots along the Murray as we have looked forward to this part of the trip for a long time.
