We were all awake quite early this morning and so we sat outside and enjoyed the sunshine before beginning to pack up the van. We hit the road earlier then expected because the kids and the dog wanted to go down to the river to play and the thought of travelling with them all wet and muddy spurred us on to move quickly!! We drove through the countryside to Lockington taking all the smaller roads past dairy farms and wheat crops - it was a very pretty drive. We got to Lockington around lunchtime and found Travelers Rest, a town initiative to increase trade in the area. The small park is just behind the town playground and a powered site with water is only $15 a night. There is also a bbq, hot showers, and a dump point as well as a basketball hoop and a wall to hit a ball against. One other van was here as we arrived and they advised us to just pick a spot and settle in. The kids ran off to the playground and just as we had finished setting up Dot, the caretaker, came over and told us all about the town. By the time she was ready to leave she had offered to dog sit Tally anytime - but declined babysitting the kids!! We spent the afternoon cleaning the inside of the van, doing multiple loads of laundry and exploring the small town. After dinner we went for a walk and found the Loch Ness Monster - an enormous metal structure in the shape of a Koonack has been sunk in the town pond and visitors are encouraged to try and pull it up. The kids loved the idea even though they weren't strong enough to raise Lochy and got Nick to do it instead. It stayed light until after 830pm so the kids played in the park with some of the town children and were reluctant to finally come in and have a shower before bed. Everybody was scrubbed cleaned and had their hair washed - they were quite unrecognizable by the time we'd finished!! It felt fantastic to climb into a clean bed at long last!!
