We were woken up around 6am with the usual comings and goings of the caravan park but drifted in and out of sleep until about 8 when the boys started commando rolling on their bed again. The ants had invaded the kitchen and the oven overnight so it took a while to sort them out before we could relax with a coffee. We decided to skip school this morning and head off to Katherine Gorge before it got too hot as at 9am it was already 25 degree, humid and sticky. We walked the Baruwei Loop, which was 3.7kms long and took us along the river, up to the look out and along the escarpment. As we walked along the river we saw lots of Little Red Flying Foxes hanging in the trees making a huge racket but that was the only sight to impress the kids. The views of the Gorge and 17 Mile Valley were stunning but the kids complained most of the way, as they were too hot. They began to enjoy themselves when Nick emptied his water bottle over them and with the promise of an ice cream at the end! We contemplated a swim in the Gorge but the water didn't look very inviting and the kids wanted a swim in the pool back at the park instead. We headed home and spent the afternoon around the pool where the kids made some friends and had a great time only coming home for dinner! Then they ran around the van with the next-door neighbours until it got dark by which time it was bedtime as they were shattered!
