Singapore is a strange place, it's a country only 6 times larger than Phillip island, with the same population as Victoria.
Orchard rd has shopping centers on it's full length, each 5 stories above ground and three below ground. Imagine chadstone, northland, eastlands, southland, and 20 others all next to each other on the same street. All with the same shops, and all full of winter clothes (but the temperature doesn't drop below 30 degrees here .......surely the people dressing the mannequins in long wool coats and beanies must question this????)
By 11 am even your sweat has sweat on it, it's just lucky the sun never comes out from behind the cloud, or you might not survive the day....
But Singapore is the most amazingly efficient city you have ever seen, train stations are everywhere, trains come every 4 minutes, tickets are cheap, the streets are clean, walls are clean. Construction of new buildings seems to go on all night and all day swallowing up everything in it's path....... It's a place that accountants and obsessive compulsives would sleep very soundly I imagine.
The beach we saw yesterday had about 50 container ships and oil tankers moored off it, an oil refinery in the background, and after the kids dipped their feet in the water, we had to wipe off a light splattering of Singapore light crude oil.
But Australia could learn a lot from the governing of Singapore, because everything works, everybody works, and obviously the economy seems to be thriving! It's safe to walk the streets at night ( which still makes you break a sweat!).
Had a great time with the nimmo's, but are also looking forward to going home!
