I arrived to Koh Phangan two days before the famous full moon party, and got a great room with an ocean view, which required a steep climb (the view was totally worth it though). I met 4 young backpackers from Germany, and we spent great time on the beach in Haad Yao. We made plans to go to the party together the next day. On the day of the party, we had some drinks at the hotel and then took the songthaw to the famous Haad Rin. The ride was a bit crazy, because we had so many people in the songthaw. When we arrived to the place, we saw half naked people covered in body paint, carrying buckets of whiskey and rum. We headed for the beach, where most of the action was supposed to be. I really wanted to get body painted, so we found one place near the beach and I got a big pink/orange sun painted on my chest. Then we got our buckets, and were ready to hit the clubs. I jumped on the table with Pamela in one of the clubs on the beach. We had two Israelis dancing with us. In fact, the full moon party was really catered to Israelis - we saw lots of signs in Hebrew and falafel places. We tried a few different clubs. The music was not what I typically would dance to, trance music mostly. They had fire shows, and a slide in one place, with people climbing up a rope ladder and sliding down between two torches into the sand. Then of course lots of guys started peeing into the sea. The funny part was watching some people bath there, trying to sober up, washing their faces, and others just relieving themselves. Lots of people were totally wasted. It was not too crowded though, so we were quite comfortable on the beach. We really wanted to watch the sunrise, so we kept dancing and got some food to keep us awake all night. There was even a sleeping area for those who were too tired. Finally, around 5:30am we decided to head back because we just got too tired. On the ride back, the sun came up, so we were proud that we made it to sunrise (even if it wasn't on the beach, technically). We got breakfast at 7 Eleven, and went to sleep.
