After a very brief visit with friends we headed out to see our eldest, Craig, for a couple of days. We spent a few hours around Edmonton and then headed east on the #14 Hi-Way instead of the usual Yellowhead Hi-Way. A nicer drive even though it may take a bit longer. Beautiful rolling green hills, vibrant yellow fields of flowering Canola and, of course, the oil pump-jacks here and there. We made it into Lloyd early evening.
The next day the Fall Exhibition was on and we spent a few hours there. A real honest to goodness country fall fair with baking, crafts, quilting, sewing and even a category for "best gift wrapped box"!
We saw lions and tigers and foxes and camels. While my diet didn't "fair" to well we had a good time. We ended the evening by watching the band "Nazareth"'. Yep, the 70's band was playing the fair at Lloydminster. I only recognized one song but I did see Cam's head bobbing along. Craig took some amazing pics of the evening storm clouds that I will add ONCE I get a good enough signal that my iPhone will connect to!
On the 12th we found a couple of great antique stores in Kitscoty where Cam scored a bunch of Tomte collectible toy cars and then on to Vermillion to a quilt store. Sad to see that the great quilt store that had been in Lloyd was gone. Cam found how small the world can be. There was a fellow he spotted that he was sure he recognized. Turns out it was a guy that ran the stacker at Menzies Bay Dry Dock in Campbell River when Cam drove logging truck there between 1989 - 1997, what a coincidence!
There was lots of smoke in the air by the 13th from all the fires up north. After dinner that evening Craig drove us about 30 minutes north of town to see the North Sask River. When the area was first settled it would take people 4 days to get into Lloyd and back for supplies, now with the bridge about an hour. Early evening as we wanted an early start with plans to cross Sask tomorrow.
