Hello again
Arrived back in London this afternoon. Spent the last week sailing some of the Greek Islands with dad and one of his mates (Geoff) from the UK. Dad's mate part owns a syndicate boat and we volunteered to crew for the week. Picked up quite a bit about sailing and it was a great way to see some of the quieter islands...as opposed to mykonos, santorini and ios which i saw on my contiki.
We had a couple of hiccups along the way but overall it was an awesome week, and i think both the geriatrics enjoyed it...
We met Geoff in Lefkas Town on the island on Lefkas. Our first port of call was a small bay next to Nidri where we anchored and jumped in the dingy to head over to a taverna (resteraunt) for dinner. The next morning we tried to set sail but had to hang round for a few hours whilst the engine got fixed. This didnt occur until quite late in the afternoon, by which time it was too late to head to our next destination se we headed across to the other side of the bay known as Vliho. Had dinner at the yacht club there then set sail the following morning for little Vathi (deep water in english) on the island of Ithaki. I did a spot of fishing off the boat and was quite successful...well if you enjoy eating seaweed that is. We then sailed across to the island of Meganissi to Spartahori. One of my favourite stops as it was my one shower for the week. From here we went just around the corner to Big Vathi where we stayed for 2 nights. Had fun and games trying to leave on the second morning though as our anchor had wedged iteslf into a massive chain which was on the bottom of the harbour. So we left about 2 and half hours later after divers came and unhooked us. from here we were plannin on heading back up to Lefkas (aka Lefkada) but due to poor weather we had to pull into Tranquil Bay, opposite Nidri.
Dad and I also spent a night before amd after the sailing at Corfu which was a more westernised island, and a popular tourist hotspot for poms. Most of the places we stopped while sailing were small sailing towns. the week mainly consisted of breathtaking views, swimming, snorkelling, fishing, sailing, divulging local greek cuisine's and cursing when something would inevitably go wrong on the boat.
The plan for London is to try and find a job and a place to live. whether that is in london or wherever the work is, i'm not sure yet. But i will be sure to keep u informed of my progress. Hopefully I can save some money for more travels as I am not content just yet...despite the fact that I will have been away 3 months tomorrow. Max temps here for the next four days are between 17-21'C.
Love to all
Mike
