Wayne's & Bonnie's Travels
Yesterday we disembarked the Crown Princess and flew to Iguazu Falls, Argentina. We contracted with a tour company named 01Argentina. They had a package of air fare, 2 nights in a hotel, tours of both the Argentine and Brazilian sides of the falls, and all transfers that was cheaper than we could do on our own. We again got a personal transfer to the airport in a car rather than a bus. When we got to the town of Porto Iguazu, we joined up with 2 other couples to find a place to eat dinner. The town is quite active and we passed several good looking restaurants. We went to the Aqua which was recommended and were not disappointed. They have a local fish, Pacu, that is related to the Piranha but tastes wonderful. As we have found elsewhere in South America, it was also inexpensive. Our meal with an extra side dish each came to $30 for the two of us.
Today we spent the entire day touring the Argentinian side of Iguazu Falls. If you have been to Niagara, just imagine it an order of magnitude larger. They are the largest waterfalls system in the world. They are located on the border of Argentina and Brazil and consist of approximately 257 individual falls over 1.5 miles. They were chosen as one of the new natural seven wonders of the world. Like the Grand Canyon, they are something you have to see in person to fully appreciate. We spent the morning doing the Upper Circuit which looks down at the Falls. The highlight was Devil's Throat which is the most powerful area. After a stop for lunch we went on a boat ride into the falls. It is like the Maid of the Mist at Niagara but wetter if that is possible. We both had ponchos and still got soaked, It went right under one of the falls. After we got soaked, the boat took an exciting ride down the rapids for a couple miles. Our legs again got a workout. It was LOTS of steps down to the river and LOTS of steps back up. My poor left arthritic knee will never be the same. I'm glad I got the lubricating injections before we left but it has been barking back at me. My right leg/knee have absorbed most of the work and are holding up.
