Peter & Lucys world adventure
We arrived in Semporna and were glad to get out of the very small crammed mini bus, this bus didn't even have enough room for us to have our legs in front of us. We had to sit side ways and it hurt.. it hurt a lot. 5 hours of being sat like that, 3 days of not having a proper shower and just generally being tired led to a very grumpy Lucy & Peter.
We were so glad to check into our guesthouse and get a warm shower (thank god it was warm.) After freshening up we took LOADS of washing to the laundry and booked onto a Snorkelling trip for the following day.
That night we just wanted to go to bed but had agreed to meet Christian a guy we had met in the jungle for dinner. So at about 7pm we met, had dinner, a couple of beers and finally it was bedtime...
7am came upon us and we were meeting to set off for Mabul island at 8am.. we didn't want to get out of bed.. Because we got up late we didn't have time for breakfast, so we grabbed some watermelon from the market.
We collected our snorkelling equipment and hired an underwater camera for the day from the office, then made our way to the boat. So once making it to mabul island a few people got off the boat and some more got on. Mabul is a small island off the south-east coast of Sabah in Malaysian Borneo The island is known as one of the best muck diving destinations in the world.
The first snorkelling spot was called Lobster Wall, there was quite a bit of seaweed about here but it was still very clear water. We got to see many different colourful fish, a sea snake and some of which we didn't get to know the names of. Towards the end of the hour Peter shouted 'Lucy.. Lucy.. i just nearly got attacked by something.. i don't have a clue what the hell it were, it just showed its teeth and went for me' That my friends were a triggerfish and he made sure he stayed well away from them for the rest of the trip. haha!!
When heading towards the second site Kapalai island the sunshine came out which made the water glisten.. just beautiful. If we would have wanted to stay at the resort on this island it would have cost us $500 per PERSON per NIGHT... noooo thankyou!!!
At this site we saw a couple of string-rays, barracudas, clown fish, pennant fish.. millions of little fish swimming infront of our faces. And of course not forgetting Peter's favourite.. trigger fish!! haha!! This site had beautiful encrusted soft coral.
It was finally dinnertime and we were ready for some good grub... IT WAS ALL VEGETARIAN.. what was going on??
After we had stuffed our faces we headed back to the boat for our last bit of snorkelling of the day .. only to find Lucy's towel had blown off the boat.. no where to be seen. ohh well!!
The last site was basically in the middle of the sea, the current was very strong and we had some big waves to deal with, i can tell you this wasn't easy snorkelling. Our mission was to find turtles.. and Lucy's mission was complete in litterally 5 seconds of her hitting the water. Here's what happened.. a fellow snorkeller jumped into the water as lucy were sat on the side of the boat putting her fins on, all of a suddern we heard 'TURTLE' so Lucy moved the fastest shes ever moved and jumped into the water... a huge turtle swimming away from her.. was amazing. Unfortunately Peter hadn't shaped his bottom fast enough and missed everything.. unlucky!!
Throughout the hour we were snorkelling people kept shouting 'TURTLE' obviously if they saw one and if you were lucky enough to be near then you saw it. With the sea having a strong current and being very rough it made it hard to swim in the direction you wanted and sometimes we just had to move with the current.
We saw a couple more turtles, some were just by the coral and not swimming at all and others got followed as much as we could. Peter tried his very best to keep up with one of the turtles, taking lots of pictures but they swim very fast.. a LOT faster than us. haha!!
Overall the day trip had been worth every penny and we really enjoyed it.. one part of us is kinda regretting not learning to dive. Although we still have time.. who knows??
That evening we met Christian again for dinner, a couple of drinks, played a bit of pool (english and german rules) and then hit the sack ready for another early morning get up and a long bus journey sat next to a stinky toilet..GREAT!!
Oooohh forgot to mention, as we were saying our goodbyes to Christian we noticed the most peculiar thing.. Two dogs... STUCK TOGETHER!! From where we were standing it looked like one of the dogs had its leg wedged up the other dogs a*******.... Bizarre.
