So we waited a few days for Ewan & Jessica to arrive in Vang Vieng. In these few days we had a couple of lazy days.... one being just chillaxing watching friends for most of the day. One day we also went to a hotel to use their swimming pool, trying to top up our tans.... (Peter's T-shirt tan and Lucy's Vest-top tan!). We inquired how much a room was at this hotel, 400,000kip per night.... slightly above our budget!! Seen as we were only paying 40,000kip per night at our guesthouse, we decided we wouldn't be moving anywhere!
We walked to Chang cave just outside town, not the most exciting cave we'll ever see if were honest, but it was a very funny experience especially for Lucy! As we were heading towards the cave, we had to cross a bridge. This bridge was full of a large group of asian teenagers, they were all taking big group photos. There was no chance of crossing the bridge until they had finished. As we patiently waited, one of the girls approached Peter with her camera... it was Peter's understanding that she wanted him to take a photo off the large group together..... BUT we thought wrong! All the young girl was intersted in, was having her photo taken with Lucy. Lucy must have felt like a famous person for a while. After the girl had her picture with Lucy, a young lad approached us with his camera, AGAIN just wanting a picture with Lucy! They both might be back home now, showing off their new friend to all their mates.
The next day we went on a day trip involving kayaking, caving and tubing. The day started with a quick breakfast before going about 17km north of Vang Vieng. First stop was the elephant cave, not that interesting apart from the rock formation that looks like an elephant! We then trekked down to the next cave, this cave was cool because we got to go on tubes in it. We all had headtorches on and followed ropes thats were attached to the walls of the cave. At one point we had to get out and walk through because the water got too shallow to stay in our tubes.... wondering if there were any snakes around!! After leaving the cave we had our lunch, which included fried rice, chicken skewers and a baguette (surprise, surprise) They sure love their bread in Laos. After lunch, we were back in the truck heading towards our starting point for the kayaking. We got basic instructions on how to kayak, and got given a life jacket each. We were in a kayak together, some of the tour guides went with some individuals. As we entered the river, a chinese couple set off before us. Two seconds later.... CRASH! They had gone straight into the rocks at the side... haha. Don't think they must off paid much attention to the bit about steering the kayak! The kayaking was good, going down a few rapids. We stopped of at a bar on the river where alot of tubers were, we grabbed a quick beer. Fair funny watching the chinese go on the swings into the river in there life jackets because they can't swim! We then carried on kayaking all the way back to Vang Vieng.
Monday finally arrived and we were sat chilling out having a iced cold beer when we heard familiar voices 'ooo helloooo'... and there they were Ewan and Jess, the lady at the guesthouse had told them which way we had gone, so they could find us. That night we went out for tea and had a few drinks together, ending up at the bucket bar.. which resulted in a couple of poorly heads the next morning. This made our decision easy for what to do that day, Chill out at the pool again of course. Cheap lazy day with early night in preparation for a full day tubing.
The next two days consisted of tubing, tree swings and slides. The days were even more enjoyable with the sun beaming down.. roasting!! The only problem with tubing is the morning after when you have a shower, people just draw all over you and spraypaint 'I Love Lao' on your backs.. takes blooming ages to get off.
After having 9 days in Vang Vieng (Waaaay to long) we decided it was time to say our goodbyes to Ewan and Jess, heading south to Vientiane.
