Well i am thru my first two days of our week long field trip across europe, we have been running all of barcelona in the pouring rain. I have limited time to update as i am on a strict schedule. However i can tell you barcelona is far superior to Rome, better food, awesome markets, and clean. So far we have seen some wonderful places but i cant load pictures just yet.
Our first day began early as we left Rome for the airport a little after 6. The flight was well over an hour delayed but nonetheless it got us to our destination. We ofcourse were welcomed by rain as would be expected during our travels. We spent the afternoon exploring La Rambla and other parts of the city. The best part was the market a large covered pavilion holding hundreds of vendors selling produce, meat and fish all fresh. Anything you wanted could be found there, tuna (full heads), pig tongue, liver, and unmentionables, as well as shrimp the size of your head. Our accomodations in Barcelona are quite nice, we are staying in a hostel, the guys in a dorm of nine and the girls one for 6. Our friend cory from gettysburg met a girl here, cori who went to gettysburg and we went to celebrate halloween with her and her friend at a fairly laid back party at another hostel.
Saturday proved to be a much nicer day. We awoke to rain but it quickly gave way to sun as we toured the roman walls of Barcelona, yup roman, can´t ever escape it. Our tours of the day took us up montjuic to see the castle, fully decked out with WWII weaponary. Though not as impressive as bavarias castles it was quite a fortress. The remainder of our day was spent along the restored waterfront with a huge mall, imax, auqarium and wonderfull plazas. Lunch was okay, but the sangria was awesome. The afternoon flew by as we expored some more parks and the Dali museum bringing us well into the evening. On our way to dinner we managed to happen across an incredible break dance performance of a few guys contorting their bodies in ways that should not even be physically possible. But this was just a warming up for dinner. On a small back alley we found a nice little restuarant, with a nice atmosphere that drew us in. The service was great and presentation better, it again felt like we were eating like the rich. The meal choice may shock you but believe me it was the best, without a doubt, meat i have ever tasted in my entire life. I had Kangaroo, thats right the australian hopping creature. It was amazing, as was the duck liver that i tried from one of my friends. After the meal we were more than ready for bed and now its sunday and we are awaiting the opening of the Picasso museum to leave for our activities today. More to come from paris in a few days.
