Singapore.....
We cant tell you how happy we were to arrive in Singapore, clean airport with modern toilets-it was already a good start!
Jumped in a taxi & gave our hotel address, uh oh he said-you booked this on the net didn't you? Yep we had booked into a hotel in the famous red light district!! According to the driver our hotel offers hourly rates & its where the "night workers" go with clients-oooo yuk we weren't staying there! I turned to Ozcan we please go to Hilton??We decided on the Conrad J better than Hilton & an ideal location...ahh luxury once again (Thanks Kemal/Nicola), couldn't wait to jump into the bath& sleep in crisp white sheets, no mosi net or repellent required J
You just cant beat a good breakfast & the hotel didn't disappoint, they ever had an ice cream parlour & waffle station! We headed to Sim Lim square, a must go for electronic-lovers, 4/5 floors with nothing but cameras, laptops etc.Shopping wise-Suntec mall is a must!! Its Huge, food court is really good too with all traditional food as well as Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Thai etc, (lots of Katsu curries & ramen dishes) watch out for set meals though as they come with weird sides like fried baby fish & god knows what else!We seen a lot of weird frog dishes so body swerved those counters. There are Donut shops on every corner too, you will find everything here, the food was great.
Sentosa Island, this was by far our favourite part of the trip, you can get therevarious ways, we crossed over by cable car, bit scary but fab views. There is loads to do on the island & its really well laid out, free buses run every couple mins to take you around. We went to underwater world first and then to fish reflexology-by far the weirdest experience!! You put your feet into a pool of Turkish spa fish for 20 mins and they nibble your feet & eat all your dead skin-nice eh?? After that you get a relaxing 20min foot massage-it was only around $35 each which we thought was pretty reasonable-a must do!Dolphin lagoon was the next stop, the show with pink dolphins was included in your ticket but you can pay extra to swim with them but we decided to do this in Aus.We then went to Imax 4D, its not as big as the one we have in Glasgow but it has great effects with wind in your face & water squirting you! There are great beaches on the island too, you could easily spend couple days exploring. We opted to get the mono rail back as a few hours before there was a serious downpour & I was too scared to go on the cable car again in case rain started again. The mono drops you at Vivo city which is again another huge mall, you just seen to end up in another mall every time you cross the road!Taxi fares were reasonable, although avoid them if you can between 5-8pm and also in early morning as there is several surcharges and you end up paying double the fare.
Had a wonder round Chinatownt it was nice to see but you haven't got loads of time I would give it miss, unless you really love market shopping & are looking to buy loads souvenirs.
We went to Singapore zoo & night safari on our last day.The zoo is the best we have seen, a proper zoo if thats makes sense-the way a zoo should be, animals aren't in cages and its full of lush rainforest-really beautiful place. The zoo closes at 6pm so you have over an hour before the night safari, almost everyone heads to Ulu Ulu safari restaurant where they have an open buffet of Chinese, India & local foods, it was quite expensive but the setting makes it worth it.You then hop on a tram which slowly takes you around the night safari, the trams depart every 10mins and the safari takes around 45 mins, nice to see the animals in their natural habitat and roaming around, really enjoyed it.After the safari is the creatures of the night show, more aimed at kids but fun anyway.
Great last day, we had a great time here, would recommend a trip to Singapore to everyone-we didn't really know what to expect but it was FAB, so clean & modern with great food, shops, trips etc & everything was very well organised. The taxi drivers were excellent guides & give you loads of info on where to go. The people in general were super friendly & welcoming.
Thumbsup for Singa J
