We're out of the apartment by 9.10 and on our way to Epcot. The wine from last night has left me feeling a little fuzzy. Still, I get to sit in the passenger seat again and stare at shiny moving things. It's around a couple of hours drive to Orlando - mainly straight, never-ending roads that eventually vibrate you slowly to sleep. I get a bit over excited at the seeing the "Welcome to Disney World" sign and quickly snap away on the iPhone. The photos turn out better than anything I've taken on the SLR so far. Damn you Apple.
Epcot turns out to be fair to middling on the entertainment stakes. The science bits are great. The world fair bits, not so. We have a good laugh, generally at Maurice's expense after a ride on astronaut training leaves him feeling a little worse for wear. The rest of us really enjoy it and we're on the way to getting our 90 dollars worth.
The "World Showcase" is okay. If you haven't been, it's a selection of countries from around the world, each made up of a restaurant/cafe, a gift shop and some other stereotypical related object/thing. United Kingdom - old London pub, France - miniature Eiffel Tower, Japan - women in kimonos beating drums, etc, etc. It takes a few hours to walk around. You feel sorry for the parents doing this with kids.
Then we get to see Captain EO - a 3D film, shot back in the 80s featuring Michael Jackson and produced by George Lucas. I'm totally buzzing. Considering the film is 25 years old, it's pretty good. The seats move, you feel the wind and the lighting effects fill the auditorium, not just the screen. Great stuff.
We finish up the day back in the "Future World" with a ride on the park's centerpiece - Spaceship Earth. It's generally brilliant, we're all knackered, it's time to go home. I do the driving this time. I'm generally the fastest on the roads, as the Americans like to drive slowly. Good on 'em.
Back at the apartment, I cook up a Green Thai Curry for dinner. It turns out okay but lacks any kick. Five out of 10. Time for bed.
