well, this is my last night in thailand, i leave for tokyo first thing tomorrow morning and feel that i should write about what i've done here, i'm not realy sure where to start, perhaps the best way is by saying IT'S BEEN EPIC :D
After spending 2 nights in kanchinabury we traveled to the old capital city, aruthyia (i really dont know how to spell it) this is where we saw some pretty cool ruins and was told a story by this old guy called uncle buck about a theif, who cut the head off of a statue of buddha and buried it underground. a few hundred years later a tree has grown around it and pushed the head through the surface, the roots have grown around it and its basically a part of the tree, sik!
That evening we got on an overnight train to chiang mai, the journey was 12 hours but was kept lively by plenty of card games drinking and a little sleep. The next day i pretty much slept the entire day while some of the others went bungie jumping, f**k goin bungie jumping, i thought.
i think we got drunk that night again...
the next day we set off on our 3 day trek thorugh the jungles of northern thailand, but this wasn't before riding a bunch of random elephants, which was pretty unexpected as our tour leader forgot to mentoin it. after the elephants, we met up with a couple of the local hill tribe who would help us on our way through the jungle, these 2 were aptly named 'superman' and 'superboy', superman really earned his name when, while the rest of us were basically expiring in the tropical heat, the guy carried a shed load of water, was smoking the whole time and didnt even break a sweat, and i forgot to mention, the guy is nearly 60. he also lead the way the whole time and looked out for sketchy snakes etc. at one point he stopped the groug to look at a deadly snake at the side of the path, which, thankfully was busy swallowing a frog. annoyingly, it reversed into the undergrowth before i could get a picture. superboy was the same level of toughness exept he was about my age, hense the boy. we also met a guy called ken who was our translator, bag carrier/ handyman who also seemed to breez through the jungle like no tomorrow, he also spoke a bit of japanese.
after 3 days trekking we arrived in the village where we chilled and met the local children who performed a few songs to us and listened us perform an embarassing redition of heads, shoulder knees and toes. the next day we headed back into chiang mai and me and my 2 new danish friends went bunjie jumping and off road buggy driving, the best part of the day, for me, was when one of the danes, ebbe, crashed his buggy directly into a tree.
a messy night in chiang mai ensued and i had to stop a drunked scottish guy from attaking our tour leader. when i turned round, everyone had gone into the club which i was apparently facing, anyway i was drunk so i didnt notice it wandered off on my own, found my way back eventualy though.
we then went to a place calles thaton where me and the danish guys basically ran up a mountain, and came accross an amazing temple right at the top, we also visited a place called the monkey temple, which is literally teeming with monkeys. the next day we got on the overnight train back to bankok, and here i am-- i dont feel like i've done this trip any justice as i havnt even mentioned how sound the rest of the group was and i'm sure i've missed some crucial stuff out. oh well, you'll just have to do it yourself then won't you?
i dont have any accomodation sorted for tonight as im leaving for the airport at about 2 am, just gotta stay awake till then, coffee on. anyway ill be in japan soon, ja ne
