so after about a month of being in New Zealand, I'm about to leave for Canada, and haven't even written anything about Japan yet. So err, memory is a bit hazy, in fact it feels like it was years ago now, but I'll give it a go. It was just as good, if not better, than I thought it would be. When I arrived, I found that the underground system wasn't as hard to navigate as I'd expected, as complicated as it looks, its very well organized to make it obvious where you want to go, and where you are going. These 2 things weren't always the same in my case, but I guess that was my fault.
Having arrived at my underground stop, Minowa, with relative ease, it was time to find my hostel. It was amazing how calm the area seemed considering its right in the middle of Tokyo. Unfortunately it was just as confusing as it was calm, so I spent a good hour wandering around, calmly confused, before I found my hostel. When I finally did, I was relieved to get rid of all my bags and got acquainted with the other people staying in the room. I then went to the shop to get some beers which me and the other dudes drunk up on the roof of the hostel overlooking Tokyo listening to music, well epic. I didn't actually do much the next day as I spent most of it in bed. I was knackered from (not) sleeping in the airport so I took the opportunity to be a completely lazy ass. When I finally got up I met an American dude and was then introduced to 3 Spanish guys. we all went out and ate at this cool noodle bar, and I got a fat bowl of ramen for about 2 nugs, so Japan doesn't have to be as expensive as everyone says-- I've still got no money now though :/That night our little crew was added to by a British guy and an Aussie couple and the American dude's brother and we met up with 3 German girls who were all conveniently fluent in Japanese. there was a really cool atmosphere about the group and I think this was particularly noticed by me as I'd just been on a group tour-- it's not to say I didn't like the group I was in on Thailand but for me it was significant because we were all together because we had made friends, rather than being stuck together in a group. Anyway we all got really drunk and did karaoke. The subways didn't start up again till half 5 so we had to carry on all night- we didn't mind.I got back to the hostel at 7 and had to get up at 10 because I had to check out of the hostel, this became a bit of a habit of mine. One thing I noticed from having sleep deprivation was I kept thinking I was hearing people speak English on the subway, but they were actually going on in Japanese-- weird. So I was about to leave to dump my bags off at the next hostel when I met the American guys in the lobby, they were off to see a baseball game, they asked if I wanted to go and I was like "yes".Turns out that this was the biggest baseball team in Japan, it was all kinda lost on me though. In fact I spend more time watching the Japanese girls who were running up and down the steps with massive kegs of drink on their backs. One of them was one of the best looking girls I've seen, anyway, enough about her. That night was a bit tame compared to the last night and I spent most of it talking to a guy who thought he was Bill Bryson, one of the people who's always done a better version of what you've done, the black books quote "ooh, the tourist swamps… they're nothing" sprung to mind.I have to go and make some muffins, I'll update this again when I'm in Canada, inabit!!!
