Found some time in our last three hours in Dubai to do another blog and then we start the long trip home. We have really packed a lot into our two days here, after arriving about 11 pm we hit the sack but we’re up again by 7.00 to check out this place. It is mind blowing to think that when our children were very small this place was deserts with locals living in reed huts by the creek. Now it is a city of 5,600,000 with only 11% of the population “locals” and boasting some of the most exciting architecture in the world including the world’s tallest building. That creek is now a broad waterway and as I lie here I can see super yachts, dhows and floating restaurants passing by. On our first morning we visited a local mall where high end goods from all over the world were displayed. After lunch we took a tour to see “old Dubai” really a reconstruction of sorts but it included spice and gold markets rather like in Istanbul. This morning we have been shown around modern Dubai which blows your mind. We walked through the Golden Rectangle 150 metres high and then went through the Dubai City Mall which is the largest in the world. After a lovely lunch by the waterfall (see photos) we have come back to the hotel to prepare for our departure. I think this will be my final blog for this trip but there is much, much more to tell you when we get home and a wealth of photos to explain. We rather like this life, so look out, we could be off again soon.
