After hanging out with Phil and Jenny this morning, Jenny dropped me at Plano Downtown. It gave me a chance to explore the boutique-type shops and cafés. It's my kind of village. I haven't bought many items on my trip. Having to carry everything for two months makes one somewhat selective. I couldn't resist a beautiful pearl and crystal necklace. Chunkier than I'd normally select, but I absolutely love it.
I then went back to the Fillmore Pub for late lunch. This time I had a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc to accompany my tomato and mozzarella salad. The fries were really salty, so I returned them and asked for a new batch with no salt. I've noticed the food is generally quite salty. It may of course be a ploy to make you thirsty, or it could be one of the differences between UK and US cuisine. I'm not sure, but I try not to eat too much salt.
So, after my brief and enjoyable sojourn to North Dallas, I made my way on DART towards Dallas Fort Worth Airport. I took the orange line south, switching to the TRE train at Victory. There were loads of commuters making their way home. Most seemed to alight at Irving Historic Downtown. A couple more stops and I arrived at the airport stop. I alighted, saying to myself, 'where's the airport'. Not a building (or plane in sight). A couple of commuters directed me towards a bus. To actually get to the airport I had to take two buses, switching part way towards the airport complex. It's big, with a lot of ground to cover. I'm glad I came a day early. Part recce, part arriving well ahead of time. At North Terminal A I called for the courtesy shuttle bus to my hotel. Luckily it arrived within five minutes, so I didn't have to wait too long.
After checking in, I went for dinner at the hotel restaurant. I needed just plain food, so ordered three side dishes of a baked potato with asparagus and broccoli. My body needs some 'green' stuff. Boy was I presented with some green stuff! Enough broccoli to feed several people. I actually think it might have been a whole broccoli! I think there must be a massive amount of food waste here. I'm contributing to that, which I feel bad about, but even the starter dishes and side dishes are mega-portions.
Back in my room, I enjoyed watching 'Water for Elephants' with Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson. Christoph Waltz, played a very compelling baddie with charm.
