Yesterday was really good - we headed to Kanchanaburi for the day, which is about 2 hours from Bangkok where we are staying.
First stop was Kanchanaburi war cemetery this had many soliders. it was just like any other war cemetery, had info written about the world war 2 etc... we then headed to the Jeath war museum, again pretty interesting, we could see some of the Burma Railway which was our next stop!! once we were done looking around the museum we decided to walk around to the railway which crossed the Kwai river and people are free to walk along - Morgan dragged SJ the whole way across, she thought it was scary as you could easily fall through the gaps on each side and many of the planks of wood were broken, we were just balancing on the middle, to top this off there were loads of people walking in both directions. As we almost reached the other side we saw some elephants which was really cool then a train decided to come along the track!!!!!!!! everyone had to get out of the way - we have no idea how that bridge holds a train!!! ha ha! we headed back balancing carefully as there were tons of people walking the opposite way to us! once we made it to the other side we headed back to the museum where we got our bus to station Thakilen so we could ride the 'death train' to Namtuk station, it was about an hour ride (a very slow one at that!) - the views were lovely but was scary when it was going around the cliffs, we didnt know how it was balancing with all the weight of the people!! when we looked out the windows (which were fully open) we could see underneath the track which was miles above the ground!!!!!!!!!
When we arrived at the station we went for lunch at a local restaurant where we had some Thai food :) After this we got back on our mini bus and headed to Sai Yoke Noi Falls - there were people bathing in full clothes in the water and locals having picnics, it was a very small waterfall but pretty, usually there is more water running apparently?!! After this we headed to the Tiger Temple which we had been waiting for all day - we weren't sure what to expect. We thought that there would be a temple there which is why SJ had to wear a 'lovely outfit' (huge trousers and a t-shirt we had to buy) but we now think it was because of the tigers, as it just seems like a tiger sanctuary. it was awesome that we could touch the tigers but we are not sure if they were drugged or not which is really sad - the people there were adiment that they were so calm because it was very hot and they have been hand raised - we weren't that convinced. but it was super cool touching them, we even got to stroke a baby one :)
we will upload the photos later as it is not working at the moment!!!
